Work Programme

Achieving deep integration in relations requires a significant approximation of laws, including complex mechanisms to ensure uniform interpretation and effective implementation of relevant EU financial services legislation and the protection of consumers’ rights in financial services, as mentioned in the Association Agreement. Therefore, training a highly qualified specialist in this field is a priority. The implementation of the Module ««European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services»» is aimed at the organization of effective training of students of SSU for bachelor’s degree of the specialties «Law» and «International Law», by preparation and implementation the course ««European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services»».  The course will offer motivated students the opportunity to acquire experience at the highest level within the areas of European financial law, financial legislation of EU and provides them with a chance to further their organizational and research skills.

The module will be taught in Ukrainian and will be open to graduate and postgraduate students, legal clinics participants, academic community, law professionals, public administration, civil society and other participants.

The proposed module provides the program with the following objectives:

  • preparation and implementation the course «European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services», for bachelors of the specialties «Law» and «International Law»;
  • development of an online platform based on the social network of Facebook for communication of all interested parties on the issues of module work, as well as direct coverage of all activities that will take place;
  • preparation and implementation of an on-line course on the subject of the open access module for all interested persons to obtain the necessary knowledge on issues related to the European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services;
  • conducting an annual training that will be addressed to law clinics community: law clinics curators, coordinators and consultants on the theme «European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services»;
  • holding an annual round table on the topic «European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services»;
  • publication of the manual «European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services».

The project will be implemented in the following stages:

Preparation: 01/09/2020 — 30/09/2020: development of a detailed plan-schedule; development of detailed module program: promotional event, key lectures, seminars, training, roundtable; development of group work, discussions and test items; announcement for promotional event and invitation of targeted group participants; conducting promotional event to present and discuss the module with general public; preparation of handouts for students, teachers, law professionals, public administration, civil society and other participants.

Implementation: 01/09/2020 – 31/08/2023: annual training that will be addressed to law clinics community: law clinics curators, coordinators and consultants and other interested persons; development of e-learning tools for blended-learning, Open Online Course materials for various target audiences; conducting annual roundtables  for students, teachers, law professionals, civil society and other stakeholders in Sumy, regional and national level.

Evaluation:

  • number of participants of the promotional event;
  • number of students for each bachelor program;
  • tests grading;
  • number of students participating in roundtables;
  • number of participants of the trainings;
  • number of scientific and popular publications, reflecting the main theme of the Module.

Follow-up and dissemination of experience: 01/09/2020 – 31/08/2023: conducting annual training for law clinics curators, coordinators and consultants and other interested persons; development and promotion Open Online Course for students, academic community, law professionals and civil society representatives; conducting annual roundtables which gives the opportunity to students, professionals and the wider public to take part in discussions and  will be invited to write papers throughout the duration of the project, leading to the publication of the best contributions on the online open access platform (as a result of roundtables proceedings); research activities; publication of information materials on the results of the project on website of the Department of International, European and civil legal disciplines; cooperation with regional media with the aim to stimulate the the interest of the general public to the project and to reforms taking place in the financial sector of the country and facilitating their understanding.

The dissemination of information about the project will also be facilitated by the placement of information materials both through the website of the SSU Law Clinic and directly in the consultation room. Providing qualified counseling, notably through course study, will help to increase the number of recipients.

The dissemination ranges from providing specific teaching material, information on project web pages to final meeting activity at the end of the project and to publishing a manual «European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services».

Estimation: number of participants of the training and roundtable; online media materials; Open Online Course on the OpenCourseWare platform of SSU for distance learning module for various target audiences; number of published material; number of students registered and passed Open Online Course; number of downloads of materials on project’s website in the public domain; number of users joined module pages in social networks.
