The International Media Law Summer School<\/a> is an annual professional training program for lawyers of the Center for Democracy and the Rule of Law<\/a> (CEDEM) with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine. The Course is dedicated to freedom of speech and freedom of information, audiovisual and online media regulation, countering misinformation, protection of privacy, and other challenges facing modern media.<\/p>\n

This year, the XVII International Summer Media Law School was held online from June 14 to 29 due to quarantine restrictions. It was an intensive training course joined by 36 participants from Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Alina Rassokhina, a Ph.D. student of the Department, also passed a competitive selection and received a grant to study at the Summer School.<\/p>\n

During two weeks, 29 lectures were given by Ukrainian and international experts. The participants also performed practical tasks and discussed.<\/p>\n

The School’s program was divided into three blocks. The first block was devoted to general standards on freedom of expression and the case-law of the ECtHR. The second covered the legal regulation of the media and journalism, the use of information as a weapon, and ways to counter misinformation. The last block concerned the protection of personal data, the right to forgetting, and artificial intelligence development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
