On April 14, 2021, an open lecture was given by Colonel Petro Kanana, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine<\/a>, former military diplomat, member of the Mission of Ukraine to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization<\/a> in 1999-2002. The lecture was attended by first- and second-year students majoring in International Law, Law, History and Archeology, teachers of the Department of International, European Law and Civil Law, as well as the Department of History.<\/p>\n

The lecture, devoted to the historical development of relations between Ukraine and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, modern aspects of cooperation, as well as the prospects of our country’s accession to NATO, aroused keen interest of the audience. The lecturer, who personally participated in the formation of Ukraine-NATO relations, spoke about his own experience, the work of the NATO-Ukraine Commission<\/a>, the organization’s open door policy, as well as the legal and political challenges facing Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. .<\/p>\n

Petro Kanana also noted that there is a lot of controversy, myths and misinformation surrounding NATO, provided practical advice on fact-checking, focused on documents and other sources that will provide objective information, expand understanding of NATO standards and the activities of this organization.<\/p>\n
