From 2 to 4 July 2026, the Rule of Law Research Centre of the Faculty of Law at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, in cooperation with the Supreme Court of Ukraine and with the support of the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine, hosted the Summer School of Professional Development “General Theory of Law and Legal Practice: The Golden Intersection of Interaction.”<\/em><\/a> The event was attended by Mariia Plotnikova<\/a> (in person) and Anna Slavko<\/a> (online), members of the Department.<\/p>\n

During the three-day programme, participants explored contemporary approaches to legal theory, the role of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the Supreme Court of Ukraine in shaping legal doctrine, as well as current issues in legal reasoning and legal writing.<\/p>\n

The Summer School brought together judges of the European Court of Human Rights and the Supreme Court of Ukraine, leading legal scholars, and academics from law schools across Ukraine to discuss key developments in the general theory of law and its relevance to modern legal practice. Particular attention was given to contemporary approaches to legal interpretation, the influence of the European Court of Human Rights’ case law on the development of national jurisprudence, and current challenges related to the interpretation of legal norms, legal reasoning, and legal writing.<\/p>\n

Participation in the Summer School enhanced the participants’ professional competencies, provided valuable insights into current approaches to legal education, and created opportunities for academic exchange with representatives of the judiciary and the wider legal community. The knowledge and experience gained will be incorporated into teaching, research, and the education of students enrolled in the D9 International Law<\/strong> and D8 Law<\/strong> degree programmes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
