International, European and Civil Law Department

According to the decision of the Academic Council of Sumy State University International, European and Civil Law Department was established by reunion of the Department of International, European and Environmental law and Department of Civil and Financial Law. Consolidating the Sumy State University and former Ukrainian Academy of Banking and creation of Educational-scientific Institute of Law made it possible to establish the Department specialized in international law and environment-law-related disciplines.

The principle objectives of the Department are

  • to prepare highly qualified lawyers;
  • to develop scientific research in the areas of Department’s specialization.

The Department is focused on the training of specialists freely oriented in international law issues of the modern legal environment. It also teaches comparative law, environmental law, land law and agricultural law of Ukraine.

The Department is headed by Vladyslava Zavhorodnia, Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Law.

Teachers of the Department have a wide range of scientific interests determined by the disciplines being taught: they include international protection of human rights, international migration law, the co-operation of states and international organizations in the field of environmental protection, comparative law, issues of the harmonization of the legislation of Ukraine with the European Union law, the co-operation of states and international organizations in the field of environmental protection, etc.
