On June 27, 2025, within the framework of the Jean Monnet Chair project “EU Standards on Freedom of Expression and Information” of the Erasmus+ programme (101127062 EUFreeMedia), a scientific and practical roundtable “Freedom of Expression: Problems of Implementation of European Standards in Ukraine” will be held.
The purpose of the roundtable is to discuss current challenges to the realization of the fundamental right to freedom of expression under martial law, to draw attention to the need for improving domestic media legislation and aligning it with EU law, and to promote the standards of ethical and responsible journalism, academic freedom, and media literacy among civil society actors.
We invite all those interested in the proposed topics to participate. Participation of Erasmus+ project implementers, media representatives, civil society activists, educators, researchers, and students in higher and professional pre-tertiary education is especially welcome.
The roundtable will include the following thematic areas:
- Evolution of international and European standards for ensuring the right to freedom of expression and information;
- Freedom of expression within the cultural pattern of the Ukrainian political nation;
- Principles of freedom of expression and protection of honour, dignity, and reputation;
- Freedom of expression and national security: protection of journalists’ rights under martial law;
- EU standards in the functioning of the media;
- The right to truth as a component of transitional justice;
- Implementation of the right to freedom of expression in educational and scientific activities.
Participation in the roundtable is free of charge.
