Democracy, Pluralism and Security as values of the EU

On September 27, 2019, the presentation event of the educational project “600115-EPP-1-2018-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE600 Enforcement of European Union Values in Ukraine” was held in the Congress Center of Sumy State University. The Project is implemented with the support of the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency and funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, Jean Monnet Module in 2018-2021.

The presentation event “Democracy, pluralism and security as values of the EU” was intended both to give the audience a brief report on the results of the project in the 2018-2019 academic year, and to inform the public about the planned activities.

First of all, the academic coordinator of the project, Vladyslava Zavhorodnia made a welcoming speech, which provided basic information on the difficulties and prospects of implementing the values of the European Union in Ukraine. Therefore, the executor of the project Anna Slavko shared with the participants of the event the main achievements of the first year of the project, which include:

  • development, implementation in the curriculum and presentation of the discipline “Values of European Union” for students of Academic and Research Institute of Law SSU;
  • holding a number of events aimed at introducing the values of the European Union in Ukraine, in particular the student debate “Tolerance and non-discrimination as EU values”, the workshop for lawyers “EU Values: the role for Ukraine. Fair justice”, and training for educators and teachers “EU Values: a tool for teaching and dissemination. Equality as a value of EU»;
  • scientific work in the field of EU values research, which resulted in the publication of a number of articles and abstracts at scientific conferences on European integration;
  • development of an online course “Values of the European Union”, which is accessible to general public.

In addition, the invited speakers of the event, Head of the Research Centre for Regional Security Mykola Nazarov and coordinator of the Centre Andrii Lebid delivered a short lecture on democracy, pluralism and security as values of the European Union.
