Presentation of the educational project “European standards for the protection of the rights of financial services consumers”

On October 9, 2021, the presentation of the educational project 619998-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE “European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services” (“European standards for protection of rights of consumers of financial services”), co-financed by the EU executive agency for education and culture within the direction of the Jean Monet Module of the Erasmus+ program.
The project coordinator Olha Shvaher, the executors of the project Mariia Plotnikova, and Liudmila Rudenko presented the results of the work for the first year of the project implementation and outlined the tasks for the future.

To fulfill the goals of the project, the following is planned:

• annual trainings, which will be addressed to the community of legal clinics: curators of legal clinics, coordinators and consultants on the topic “European standards for the protection of the rights of financial services consumers “;

• holding annual round tables on the topic “European standards for the protection of the rights of financial services consumers “.

Thus, on January 15, 2021, a scientific and practical round table “Legislation of Ukraine on financial services: the issue of adaptation to the law of the European Union” was held, at which the problems of the functioning of the financial services market in Ukraine and the EU were discussed. On March 27, 2021, the first training for consultants and curators of legal clinics “Practice of consulting on the protection of the rights of financial services consumers” was held, which was attended by representatives of 11 legal clinics from different regions of Ukraine.

In the 2020/2021 academic year, teaching of the elective course “European standards for the protection of the rights of financial services consumers” began. Students of the “Master’s” degree in the specialties “Law” and “Intellectual property” of full-time, correspondence and distance education had the opportunity to participate in the study of the general provisions of the regulation of the financial services market in the EU, the legal basis of the provision of banking, pension, insurance and investment services, the main methods and ways to protect consumer rights.

The results of the practically oriented work with students within the framework of the project were presented by the head of the Legal Clinic of the National Institute of Law of Sumy State University, co-executor of the project Liudmila Rudenko.

Olha Yakymenko – attorney, regional representative in the Sumy region of UNBA NextGen, familiarized those present with some practical aspects of protecting the rights of consumers of financial services in the field of consumer lending.
