In the spring semester of the 2020/2021 academic year, full-time, correspondence and distance education students of the “Master’s” degree of specialties “Law” and “Intellectual Property”, had the opportunity to join the selective course “European standards for the protection of the rights of financial services consumers”.
Within the framework of the discipline, topics related to the general regulations of the financial services market in the EU were considered, the legal basis for the provision of banking, pension, insurance and investment services was determined, as well as attention was paid to the main violations in the field of financial services and the main methods and methods of consumer rights protection were determined.
Also the main key cases of the judicial practice of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights were identified, which affected the market of financial services of the EU and its participants.
The combination of a practice-oriented approach and scientific research made it possible to achieve high performance in the discipline.
At the end of the studying, the students presented the results of their research on various topics: The state of adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the requirements of EU law regarding the protection of the rights of consumers of credit services; European standard information on consumer credit: content, procedure of provision; Features of the protection of the rights of consumers of financial services in the field of electronic commerce in the European Union; Alternative dispute resolution with the participation of consumers of financial services in the European Union; Financial education as an element of the system of protection of the rights of consumers of financial services and others.
Under the guidance of teachers supervising the discipline, students Liliya Sachenko, Oleksandr Orlov, and Mariia Kukhno participated in the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Reforming the Legal System in the Context of European Integration Processes”, which took place on May 20-21, 2021, on the basis of the Academic and Reaearch Institute of Law of Sumy State University and presented their reports on current issues of regulation of financial services in Ukraine and the EU.
According to students’ feedback: “Discipline is useful not only for the educational process, but also for personal experience”; “The discipline is quite interesting and very important not only for students of higher legal education, but also for every ordinary citizen.”
Among the wishes left by students: “More practical cases!” – We promise to continue to improve the structure of the course and add even more practical aspects.
