Participation of an International Law Student in the 7th Summer School of the Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “JurFem”

From August 18 to 21, the 7th Summer School of the Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “JurFem” took place in Lviv region. Following a competitive selection process, Eliza Bokova, a student of the International Law program, was selected to participate.

This event, organized exclusively for female law students, allowed participants to explore a number of important and highly relevant topics, including gender discrimination, domestic violence, sexual violence, and conflict-related sexual violence.

Throughout the four days, the material was delivered not only in the format of lectures. Participants analyzed fragments from films, learned about the experiences of outstanding women lawyers, and discussed the Istanbul Convention and the specifics of its implementation in Ukraine.

Particularly inspiring were the meetings with practicing women lawyers, who showed through their personal examples that the legal profession is often very different from what we see in movies — especially when it comes to women in the field. Sometimes it is long nights spent on work that later goes unrecognized; sometimes it is significant pressure, as one represents not only oneself but women in the profession as a whole.

During the School, the participants also worked productively on projects that will be implemented in the upcoming 2025/2026 academic year. In particular, a discussion lecture titled “Sexist Advertising: How to Recognize It and What to Do”, coordinated by Eliza Bokova, is planned for November 2025 with the support of JurFem.
