On October 27, 2023, the presentation of Jean Monet’s projects “Migration Policy and EU Law in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals” (Jean Monet Module) and EU Standards on Freedom of Expression and Information (Jean Monet Chair) took place.
The event was attended by more than 60 participants representing both the academic environment and the public sector, as well as students.
At the beginning of the event, Anna Slavko, the thematic coordinator of the “Migration Policy and EU Law in the Context of the Sustainable Development Goals” (Jean Monet Module) project, reported on the results of the year of project implementation and the planned activities, including a school on migration law, a workshop for forced migrants and a round table on migration law and policy. Therefore, the Head of the Department of Social Guarantees and Internally Displaced Persons of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Valentina Soboleva, spoke about the social protection of IDPs under Ukrainian legislation.
The following speech was devoted to the support provided by NGOs to displaced persons. Valentina Tiron, the regional coordinator of the NGO “CrimeaSOS”, spoke about the experience of supporting IDPs.
The thematic coordinator of the “EU Standards on Freedom of Expression and Information” project, Vladyslava Zavhorodnya, shared plans to implement the project in the 2023/2024 academic year. In particular, it is planned to hold a workshop for journalists, bloggers, and public activists in March 2024 and a scientific and practical round table “Freedom of expression: problems of implementing European standards in Ukraine” in June 2024.
Invited speakers Nataliya Yesina (executive director of the NGO “Northern Human Rights Group”) and Anatoliy Chernyavskyi (lawyer, candidate of legal sciences) spoke about media literacy as a system of protection against harmful influences and the influence of the European paradigm of freedom of expression and information on domestic judicial practice.
