Summary of Teaching the Discipline “EU Migration Policy and Law: History and Modernity” in the 2024/2025 Academic Year

During the autumn semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, the elective course “EU Migration Policy and Law: History and Modernity” was delivered. This course was developed within the framework of the educational project 101098859-EU4Migration-ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEITCH-RSCH-UA-IBA / ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH “EU Migration Policy and Law in the Context of Sustainable Development Goals” under the Jean Monnet Actions of the Erasmus+ program.

The course “EU Migration Policy and Law: History and Modernity” comprises four thematic modules:

  • History of the Development of EU Migration Policy (Lecturer: Anatolii Honcharenko)
  • EU Institutions in the Field of Migration (Lecturer: Olha Shvaher)
  • Schengen Law (Lecturer: Vladyslava Zavhorodnia)
  • Human Rights in Migration Processes (Lecturer: Anna Slavko)

This course was chosen by fourth-year students specializing in 293 “International Law” and 032 “History”. It included 48 hours of classroom instruction24 hours of lectures, and 24 hours of practical classes. Both traditional teaching methods (lectures, case studies, testing) and innovative pedagogical approaches (a model meeting of the Council of the European Union, individual and group projects, media object analysis, etc.) were employed.

The course was conducted online due to security concerns. Despite this, students actively participated in lectures, engaged in discussions, and worked effectively on the MIХ platform for blended learning support. The MIX platform, provided by Sumy State University, hosted all course materials, facilitating smooth communication between lecturers and students and ensuring optimal learning outcomes.
