From July 9 to 13, 2024, the Summer School of Professional Development “Non-Positivist Legal Theory: Methodology and Teaching Methods Issues” was held to enhance the qualifications of academic staff in higher education institutions. Associate Professors Mariia Plotnikova and Anna Slavko were selected to participate in this event.
The experts and lecturers of the school were researchers with extensive theoretical and practical experience in constitutional law and legal theory: Mykola Koziubra, Volodymyr Venger, Oleksii Tseliev, and Yuliia Matvieieva. The event program included:
- Discussions on the essence of law and human rights.
- Justice as a fundamental property of law.
- Human dignity as the cornerstone of law.
- The state of general legal education.
The monograph “Legal Argumentation: A General Theoretical Characterization” was also presented during the school. A practical outcome of the school was the development of model syllabi for legal courses.
The Summer School of Professional Development was organized by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and supported by the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine within the project “Promoting Human Rights-Based Approaches in Higher, Legal, and School Education,” which is funded by extrabudgetary contributions from OSCE participating states. Graduates of the school received corresponding certificates.
We thank the organizers for inviting us to such a fantastic event, which prompts a rethinking of approaches to teaching legal disciplines!
