The results of the first cycle of teaching the course “Values of European Union”

Results of teaching the course “Values of European Union” in the 2018/2019 academic year in the framework of the educational project “600115-EPP-1-2018-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE “Enforcement of European Union Values in Ukraine,” with the support of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), Module Jean Monet Program Erasmus Programme+.

In the autumn semester of the 2018/2019 academic year, students of the bachelor’s degree in Law, full-time, part-time, and distance learning, had the opportunity to join the elective course “Values of European Union”. The course is implemented within the educational project “600115-EPP-1-2018-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE “Enforcement of European Union Values in Ukraine,” with the support of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), Module Jean Monet Program Erasmus Programme+.

Teaching in two study groups of 3rd-year students who chose the course to study was provided by the head of the Department, Vladislava Zavhorodnia (lecturer), senior lecturer, academic project coordinator Maria Kuntsevich and assistant of the Department Anna Slavko.

The training course covers a wide range of topics from the formation and development of European civilization and its values to modern human rights standards in the EU, nondiscrimination, equality, tolerance, respect for human dignity, and the Rule of Law.

The course’s main feature of teaching and learning is establishing a value-oriented approach, innovative interactive teaching methods (value cases, educational discussions and debates, quests, and business games).

The combination of a practice-oriented approach and research has allowed achieving high learning efficiency. In addition, students showed great interest in the issues of the course, which found its manifestation, particularly research work, participation in scientific and practical conferences in preparation for the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers in “Law” and “International Law”.

As a result of teaching, the educational project team conducted a survey of students, which showed a high level of satisfaction with the knowledge and competencies acquired during the course. In addition, students have expressed several wishes that will be taken into account by the course developers in its further improvement.
