“Transitional Justice: Mechanisms for the Transition from War to Peace – Guidelines for Ukraine” – event from the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union and SSU Law Clinic

On May 12, 2021, students majoring in International Law and teachers of the Department Vladislavа Zavgorodnya and Olga Shvager took part in a worckhop organized jointly by the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union and SSU Law Clinic.

The event, dedicated to the issues of transitional justice, the functioning of human rights protection mechanisms in the context of military conflict and annexation of the part of Ukrainian teritories, gathered a wide audience of curators and consultants of law clinics, teachers and students. The main speaker of the event was Olena Semyorkina, analyst of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine. She focused on key issues of transitional justice – bringing the perpetrators to justice, compensating victims of war, the right of society to know the truth about the war, its causes, events, decisions, etc., creating effective guarantees of conflict prevention. She also introduced students to the Transitional Justice Roadmap for Ukrainian society in conditions of armed conflict, developed by the UHHRU.
