Results of teaching the discipline ” Migration Policy and EU Law: History and Modernity” in the 2023/2024 academic year

During the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, the course “Migration Policy and EU Law: History and Modernity” was taught. The optional course “Migration Policy and EU Law: History and Modernity” was developed within the framework of the educational project 101098859-EU4Migration-ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH-RSCH-UA-IBA / ERASMUS-JMO-2022-HEI-TCH- RSCH “Migration policy and EU law in the context of sustainable development goals” of the “Jean Monet” Erasmus+ program.

The optional course “Migration Policy and EU Law: History and Modernity” includes four content modules that relate to the history of the development of EU migration policy, EU institutions in the field of migration, Schengen law and human rights in migration processes. Lecturers of the course were Anatolii Honcharenko, Olha Shvaher, Vladyslava Zavhorodnia and Anna Slavko.

“Migration Policy and EU Law: History and Modernity” was chosen by students of the 4th year of specialities 293 “International Law” and 032 “History”. Mastering the course involves 48 hours of classroom classes – 24 hours of lectures, and 24 hours of practical classes. Both traditional teaching methods (lectures, solving cases, testing) and innovative pedagogical methods (model meeting of the Council of the European Union, individual and group projects, work with media objects, etc.) were used within the discipline.

The teaching of the discipline “Migration policy and EU law: history and modernity” took place online with a view to martial law. However, most students constantly joined lectures and practical classes and actively participated in discussions and workshops. Using the МIХ platform of Sumy State University, on which all educational materials from the discipline were placed, made it possible to achieve the best possible results and contributed to harmonious communication between teachers and students.
