Aims of the course:
The achievement by students of modern constructive, fundamental thinking, worldviews, and systems of specialized knowledge in the field of Diplomatic and Consular Law
After successful study of the course, the student will be able to:
- Accurately assess and critically comment upon the concept and elements of Diplomatic Law and Consular Law and their interplay with other norms of International Law, eg Human Rights.
- Identify and critically appraise the role played by consuls and diplomats in international affairs, predict broad general social consequences from the diplomatic and consular activities, negotiations, international agreements or of other acts of conduct in the international arena.
- To communicate in a foreign language in the professional sphere both orally and in writing, to interpret and analyze legal texts and judgments in the field of Diplomatic and Consular Law.
- To work in an international context, respect the culture and traditions of representatives of different nations, be aware of and adhere to the basic rules of diplomatic protocol and etiquette, conduct diplomatic negotiations and conversations, professional discussions, find convincing arguments and defend one’s opinion.
- Demonstrate an appropriate level of skills in evaluating and implementing instruments on Diplomatic and Consular Law, solve problems utilizing the gained knowledge, to provide documentary support for the implementation of diplomatic and consular functions.
